- Designed, built, and programmed an autonomous rover with a deployable antenna mechanism, from CAD and fabrication through ROS 2 navigation
- Presented the design, prototype, and test-run results to a panel of 6 scientists, meeting the antenna stowage-volume requirement and holding rover tilt under 0.6 degrees at every point across terrains through load-balancing techniques
- Linked an ESP32 motor layer to Raspberry Pi planning over a custom UDP bridge with 50-80 ms command-to-response latency
- Wrote a custom A* path planner in Python on SLAM grids, tuning the obstacle buffer to 15 cm and finding that finer grids raised planning time 30-40%
- Debugged across the full stack, from existing deployed antenna mechanisms to LiDAR drivers, motor encoders, ROS 2 networking, and transform frames, optimizing the antenna mechanisms and rebuilding the rover software on Ubuntu 22.04 after a ROS 2 Humble failure
- Designed original CAD models of the rover and its antenna deployment, optimizing stowing volume by 32% with a self-balancing string-and-truss structure on a 1 m truss length
